Dr. Francisco J. Esteva, MD, PhD, is a board-certified medical oncologist and physician-scientist specializing in breast cancer. He currently serves as Director of Breast Medical Oncology and Professor of Medicine at NYU Grossman School of Medicine and NYU Langone Health’s Perlmutter Cancer Center. Dr. Esteva earned his medical degree from the University of Zaragoza in Spain, completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, and his hematology/oncology fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he also earned his PhD in Molecular Biology.
Dr. Esteva’s research centers on developing targeted therapies for HER2-positive and triple-negative breast cancers, with a focus on molecular predictors of treatment response. He has conducted groundbreaking studies on HER2-targeted agents, antibody-drug conjugates, and immunotherapy combinations. His work in biomarker discovery and resistance mechanisms has informed clinical decision-making and contributed to personalized approaches for breast cancer patients.
