Dr. Heloisa Soares

Dr. Heloisa Soares, MD, PhD, is a nationally recognized medical oncologist specializing in neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) and gastrointestinal malignancies. She serves as Associate Professor in the Division of Oncology at the University of Utah School of Medicine and is a leading member of the Huntsman Cancer Institute, where she directs the Neuroendocrine Tumor Program. Dr. Soares earned her medical degree from the Federal University of Minas Gerais in Brazil, followed by a PhD in Oncology from the University of São Paulo. She completed her residency in internal medicine and fellowship in hematology/oncology at the University of Miami, where she developed her expertise in rare and complex tumors of the gastrointestinal tract. She is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology and is widely regarded for her leadership in clinical and translational research for neuroendocrine cancers.

A leader in the integration of molecular profiling and novel therapeutics into patient care, Dr. Soares has been actively involved in clinical trials investigating targeted agents, peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT), and emerging biomarkers for treatment selection in NETs. Her translational research focuses on understanding tumor biology, identifying molecular drivers of disease progression, and developing personalized treatment strategies for patients with advanced or treatment-refractory cancers. She has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and contributed to national and international guidelines on the management of neuroendocrine tumors.

In addition to her research leadership, Dr. Soares is a dedicated educator and mentor. She has trained medical students, residents, and oncology fellows, fostering the next generation of clinician-scientists in the field. She is an active member of the North American Neuroendocrine Tumor Society (NANETS) and frequently presents her work at national and international conferences.
