Dr. John G. Golfinos, MD, is a widely respected neurosurgeon and a recognized leader in skull base and neuro-oncologic surgery. He serves as Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery at NYU Langone Health and holds the Joseph P. Ransohoff Professorship of Neurological Surgery. Dr. Golfinos earned his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and completed his neurosurgery residency at the Barrow Neurological Institute. Board-certified in neurological surgery, he brings more than two decades of expertise to the treatment of complex brain tumors, acoustic neuromas, pituitary tumors, and metastatic disease involving the central nervous system.

Dr. Golfinos is known for his innovative use of minimally invasive and image-guided techniques, as well as his expertise in Gamma Knife radiosurgery. He has played a pivotal role in advancing surgical strategies for patients with vestibular schwannomas and other skull base tumors, with a focus on preserving neurological function while maximizing tumor resection. He has also contributed significantly to research in neuro-oncology, including the molecular characterization of brain and pituitary tumors and clinical trials related to neurofibromatosis type 2. His work has been published in leading neurosurgical and oncology journals, helping to shape best practices in modern brain tumor management.

In addition to his clinical and academic leadership, Dr. Golfinos is a dedicated educator and mentor, guiding the next generation of neurosurgeons through NYU Langone’s highly regarded training programs. He is a former president of the North American Skull Base Society and actively contributes to national conversations around neurosurgical innovation and safety.
