Dr. Evan Smith

Dr. Evan Smith, MD, FACOG, is a gynecologic oncologist and surgeon at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK), where he sees patients at the Rockefeller Outpatient Pavilion in Manhattan and MSK Bergen in Montvale, New Jersey, and operates at Memorial Hospital and the Josie Robertson Surgery Center. He completed his fellowship training at MSK, which he considers his professional home, and previously practiced in his home state of Louisiana before returning to the institution where he trained. Committed to individualized, patient-centered care, Dr. Smith takes time to ensure each patient fully understands their diagnosis and the full range of treatment options available to them.

Dr. Smith specializes in surgical treatment for gynecologic cancers and is trained in the latest and most advanced surgical techniques. He performs surgical debulking procedures when the goal is to remove all visible tumor, and he offers minimally invasive approaches, including laparoscopic and robotic surgery, whenever it is safe to do so. The benefits of minimally invasive surgery, such as shorter hospital stays, less scarring, and faster recovery, are important considerations he weighs carefully for each patient. He works alongside a multidisciplinary team of surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and pathologists, and actively participates in clinical research to advance approaches to cancer care.

Dr. Smith is also a dedicated educator, working side by side with surgical fellows to pass on his knowledge and skills to the next generation of gynecologic oncologists. He was drawn to the field by a desire to build meaningful relationships with patients and make a positive impact during some of the most difficult moments in their lives. Outside the hospital, he enjoys spending time with his family, cooking Cajun cuisine, traveling, and distance running. He has completed the New York City Marathon multiple times as part of Fred's Team, raising money for cancer research at MSK.
