Dr. Mary Louise Keohan

Dr. Mary Louise Keohan, MD, is a medical oncologist specializing exclusively in the treatment of soft tissue sarcomas, a group of rare and notoriously difficult-to-treat cancers arising in connective tissues such as fat, muscles, nerves, tendons, and blood and lymph vessels. She practices at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where she works as part of a multidisciplinary disease management team that includes pathologists, surgeons, and radiation oncologists. Together, this team develops individualized treatment plans for each patient, with a strong emphasis on preserving limb and organ function. Chemotherapy plays a central role in her approach, used either before surgery to reduce tumor size or after surgery to eliminate remaining cancer cells.
