Gynecologic Surgeon, specializing in Gynecologic Cancers
Dr. Sarah Kim, MD, FACOG, is a gynecologic oncologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center specializing in the surgical care of women with ovarian, uterine (endometrial), cervical, vulvar, and vaginal cancers. She brings extensive expertise in minimally invasive approaches, including robotic-assisted procedures that allow for faster recovery, shorter hospital stays, and reduced pain, as well as complex open surgeries for patients with advanced and recurrent disease. In her clinical practice, she works closely with a multidisciplinary team of radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, and pathologists to develop individualized treatment plans for each patient. She also cares for women at high genetic risk for gynecologic cancer who are considering risk-reducing surgery, and she is committed to guiding patients with compassion through every stage of diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship.
Her research program focuses on biomarkers for ovarian and cervical cancer, the genetic drivers of rare gynecologic cancers, and novel therapeutic targets. Using cutting-edge laboratory tools, her team investigates the mechanisms underlying ovarian, cervical, and endometrial cancer development, with a particular interest in understanding how cancers develop resistance to treatment and identifying new targets for therapy. This translational work bridges laboratory discoveries with clinical care, advancing the understanding of gynecologic malignancies and opening new avenues for treatment.
Dr. Kim has received numerous honors recognizing her clinical excellence, surgical skill, teaching, and research contributions, including the William J. von Liebig and Sarnoff Research Foundation Fellowships, multiple teaching awards, the Robert F. Porges Honor Resident Award, and the Michael E. Burt Memorial Award for Clinical Excellence. She is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Society of Gynecologic Oncology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, and the American College of Surgeons.
