Dr. Yukio Sonoda

Dr. Yukio Sonoda, MD, FACOG, FACS, is a gynecologic oncologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, with practices in Manhattan and MSK Westchester in West Harrison. He specializes in the surgical treatment of cervical, uterine, ovarian, and vulvar cancers, performing approximately 300 procedures annually. With more than 18 years on the MSK team, Dr. Sonoda brings extensive experience to his patients, offering advanced treatment options including minimally invasive techniques. His path to gynecologic oncology is deeply personal, shaped in part by watching his mother, an ob-gyn, navigate the challenges and rewards of caring for women through serious illness.

Dr. Sonoda's surgical expertise was further refined during a year of training in France, where he studied under pioneers of advanced laparoscopic and radical vaginal surgery. Among the specialized procedures he mastered is radical vaginal trachelectomy, a fertility-sparing operation designed for women diagnosed with early cervical cancer. Building on that foundation, he has developed new applications for robotic surgery within the field of gynecologic oncology.
