Dr. Carmen Calfa is a breast‑cancer medical oncologist at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, the University of Miami’s NCI‑designated program. As clinical research lead for the breast‑disease group and associate director of community outreach, she bridges discovery and care for a diverse South Florida population. Her clinic delivers systemic therapy, targeted agents, antibody–drug conjugates and endocrine combinations guided by tumor genomics and real‑time biomarker monitoring.

Dr. Calfa serves as institutional principal investigator for multiple studies and phase‑two studies, including ASCO’s TAPUR registry, where she was elected chair‑elect of the national steering group. That role underscores her commitment to expanding access to genotype‑matched drugs and generating data that refine treatment selection across tumor subtypes. Her academic output spans peer‑reviewed manuscripts and national presentations addressing immunotherapy, circulating‑tumor‑DNA dynamics and survivorship quality‑of‑life metrics.

Equally important is her focus on life after treatment. As medical co‑director of Sylvester’s survivorship program, she coordinates nutrition, exercise, fertility and psychosocial services for those living beyond breast cancer. Her bilingual fluency in English, Spanish and Romanian, coupled with strong community partnerships, ensures culturally attuned guidance that empowers patients and families throughout the cancer journey.
