Dr. David Gius

Dr. David Gius, MD, PhD, is a distinguished radiation oncologist and molecular biologist known for his pioneering research on the role of aging, metabolism, and sirtuin biology in cancer development. He serves as Professor and Associate Director of Translational Research at the Mays Cancer Center at UT Health San Antonio. Dr. Gius earned his MD and PhD from the University of Chicago, completed his residency in Radiation Oncology at the National Cancer Institute, and is board-certified in Radiation Oncology. He is widely recognized for his work on mitochondrial function, oxidative stress, and their impact on cancer initiation and therapeutic resistance.

A leader in the field of cancer metabolism, Dr. Gius has elucidated how age-related changes in cellular metabolism contribute to tumorigenesis, with a focus on breast and gynecologic cancers. His laboratory has been instrumental in identifying novel therapeutic targets that modulate mitochondrial function to sensitize tumors to radiation and chemotherapy.
