Dr. Timothy J. Ley, MD, is a nationally recognized hematologist and physician-scientist specializing in leukemia and hematologic malignancies. He is the Lewis T. and Rosalind B. Apple Professor of Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, where he also serves as Associate Director of Cancer Genomics at the Siteman Cancer Center. Dr. Ley earned his medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine and completed his residency in internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. He pursued fellowship training in hematology and oncology at Washington University. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Medical Oncology and is widely regarded for his pioneering research in the genetics and biology of acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
A leader in cancer genomics, Dr. Ley’s groundbreaking work helped define the genomic landscape of AML through The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) project. His research has identified key mutations and molecular pathways that drive leukemia development, shaping new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. He has authored over 300 peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals and has been recognized with numerous awards for his contributions to cancer research, including election to the National Academy of Medicine and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
