Dr. Bhavana Pothuri

Dr. Bhavana Pothuri, MD, MS, is a highly regarded gynecologic oncologist and Medical Director of the Clinical Trials Office at NYU Langone Health’s Perlmutter Cancer Center. She earned her medical degree from the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in 1995 and completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Lankenau Hospital. She then pursued a fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and later obtained a Master’s in Clinical Research from NYU. Board-certified in Obstetrics & Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology, Dr. Pothuri provides comprehensive surgical and oncologic care for ovarian, endometrial, cervical, fallopian tube, and peritoneal cancers, offering both in-person and telehealth appointments at NYU Langone facilities in New York City and Bellevue.

She is widely recognized for her leadership in clinical research focused on ovarian and refractory gynecologic cancers. As Director of Gynecologic Oncology Clinical Trials, she oversees advanced studies including those involving PARP inhibitors, immunotherapy combinations, and novel agents for recurrent disease. Her work includes trials of mirvetuximab soravtansine in platinum-sensitive ovarian cancer and investigations into folate-receptor directed agents. Dr. Pothuri has spoken publicly on the intersection of COVID-19 and cancer care, emphasizing the safety and efficacy of treatments for patients during the pandemic. Through her focus on precision medicine and access to cutting-edge therapies, she aims to improve survival outcomes while maintaining patient quality of life.

In addition to her clinical and research leadership, Dr. Pothuri is a respected educator and advocate for diversity in clinical trials. She mentors medical students, residents, and fellows, and co-chairs NYU’s task forces focused on equity and inclusion in cancer research. She serves on national committees, including the Society of Gynecologic Oncology’s COVID Task Force, and contributes to scientific advisory groups that guide trial design and funding priorities.
