Dr. John H. Sampson, MD, PhD, is an internationally recognized neurosurgeon and physician-scientist specializing in the treatment of malignant brain tumors, particularly glioblastoma. He serves as the Robert H. and Gloria Wilkins Distinguished Professor of Neurosurgery and Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery at Duke University School of Medicine. Dr. Sampson earned his medical degree and doctorate from the University of Manitoba and completed residency training in neurosurgery at Duke University, where he later joined the faculty. He is board-certified in Neurological Surgery and is regarded as a pioneer in immunotherapy for brain tumors.
A leader in translational neuro-oncology, Dr. Sampson has developed innovative approaches to harness the immune system against glioblastoma. He has led landmark clinical trials of peptide vaccines, engineered T-cell therapies, and checkpoint inhibitors, advancing the role of immunotherapy in central nervous system malignancies.
