Dr. Weijing Sun

Dr. Weijing Sun, MD, is a respected medical oncologist specializing in gastrointestinal malignancies, particularly colorectal and liver cancers. He serves as Chief of the Division of Hematology/Oncology at the University of Kansas Medical Center and Associate Director of Clinical Research at The University of Kansas Cancer Center. Dr. Sun earned his medical degree from Shandong University School of Medicine in China, completed his residency in internal medicine at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital in New York, and pursued fellowship training in hematology and oncology at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Medical Oncology and is recognized for his clinical expertise and leadership in advancing cancer therapeutics.

Dr. Sun has led and participated in numerous clinical trials investigating novel therapies for gastrointestinal cancers, with a focus on liver, pancreatic, and colorectal cancers. His research has contributed to the development of biomarker-driven treatment strategies and precision oncology approaches. He has authored more than 150 peer-reviewed publications and serves on editorial boards and guideline committees that shape oncology practice.

In addition to his research and clinical leadership, Dr. Sun is a dedicated mentor and educator. He has trained medical students, residents, and oncology fellows, and is respected for his patient-centered approach to cancer care.
