Dr. Shivaani Kummar

Dr. Shivaani Kummar, MD, is a nationally recognized medical oncologist specializing in early-phase clinical trials, developmental therapeutics, and targeted therapies for advanced cancers. She serves as Associate Director for Clinical and Translational Research at the Knight Cancer Institute at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) and holds the Dr. Charles Rudin and Dr. Martin H. Black Professorship of Medicine. Dr. Kummar earned her medical degree from Lady Hardinge Medical College at the University of Delhi and completed her residency in internal medicine at Emory University. She pursued fellowship training in medical oncology at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), where she later served in leadership roles in developmental therapeutics. She is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology.

An accomplished clinical investigator, Dr. Kummar has designed and led numerous early-phase trials evaluating novel anticancer agents, including first-in-human studies of DNA damage response inhibitors, targeted therapies, and immunotherapy combinations. Her work has contributed significantly to advancing biomarker-driven oncology and bringing promising therapies into later-phase development. She has authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications and is widely recognized for her expertise in bridging preclinical drug development with clinical application in oncology.

Beyond her research and clinical leadership, Dr. Kummar is a respected educator and mentor. At OHSU, she directs programs that integrate translational science with clinical oncology training, preparing the next generation of physician–scientists. She has served on committees for ASCO, AACR, and NCI, reflecting her impact on shaping the national oncology research agenda. Through her leadership in developmental therapeutics, her mentorship of trainees, and her commitment to advancing precision oncology, Dr. Shivaani Kummar continues to influence the future of cancer treatment.
